Overview

Commissioning and system integration of a new data center on floors 3, 4 & 5 of a 30-story office building required a comprehensive engineering evaluation and report to evaluate the facility, maximize space usage, eliminate down time and most cost-effectively integrate the entire system. On-site testing was customized to provide the necessary information to properly evaluate the facility infrastructure, addressing a full range of improvement opportunities. The testing process included pressure monitoring and profiling the raised floor and evaluation of system transport capacity for cooling and power.

Challenge

The 80,000 square feet of raised floor for the data center provided unique challenges for this project. In addition, the project included:

  • Large central chilled water plant with six (6) 1,000-TON chillers in a A/B plant configuration
  • Protected power systems supplying 6,000 kVA of uninterruptible power in a multimodule A/B configuration
  • Stand-by power system composed of six (6) 2-megawatt diesel generators.
  • Acquire a complete understanding of how the facility operates, including base building and critical infrastructure, and gather knowledge about existing equipment operation, reliability and maintainability.
