Overview

Provide engineering services for the design of electrical modifications to the existing infrastructure in support of an 80,000 square foot data center. The scope of the project included the temporary powering of half of the data center from an alternate power source, the removal of an existing Uninterruptible Power System and the installation of two new electrical substations, main service switchgear and two 2 MVA, multimodule Uninterruptible Power Systems.

Challenges

Projects required that new systems be installed without interruption to the data center. This required close coordination of all construction activities to insure that the data center facility was not adversely affected during the construction process and that all data center personnel were notified of work being performed. The majority of work was completed between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Testing, commissioning and systems integration demanded detailed procedures and planning to provide continuity in normal business activities at all times. Due to the nature of this requirement, the completion of construction was performed in phases over a 2 ½ year period.
